What they said
The transcript is from Mondelez International's Q2 2026 earnings Q&A. Management presents strong top-line growth (4.4% in Q2), driven by emerging markets (India, Mexico, Brazil), distribution expansion, and product innovation. North America showed improving execution with positive volume mix and share gains across categories; investments in A&C and innovation (Ritz, Oreo relaunch, Biscoff) are key growth levers. Europe showed signs of improvement with positive volume trajectory expected in H2 despite heat wave impacts on chocolate and some price lapping effects. Gross profit dollars increased (+3% in gross profit dollars) and EBIT is expected to grow in Q3 and Q4; EPS guidance maintained for the full year with Q3 somewhat below due to cocoa phasing and tax/interest timing, reversing in Q4. Management highlighted productivity initiatives, supply chain efficiencies, and AI use to drive overhead savings and reinvestment. They expect strong 2027 EPS growth, insulated somewhat from commodity volatility due to productivities and volume mix improvements. Risks noted include cocoa price volatility (El Nino concerns), Middle East conflict costs, heat wave impacts on European chocolate demand, and macro consumer affordability and inflation concerns in North America. Overall tone is confident and constructive, with management reiterating reinvestment strategy and long-term structural opportunities in emerging markets and underpenetrated channels in developed markets.
Guidance
Maintaining full-year EPS outlook; top-line at least +2% for full year. Management expects similar levels of growth across H2 quarters, with top-line at least +2% and positive volume mix; gross profit dollars to accelerate in Q3 and Q4; EBIT in dollars to be up in Q3 and Q4 (more in Q4); EPS expected to be back-weighted into Q4 due to cocoa phasing and tax/interest items in Q3. Strong 2027 EPS growth expected (no numeric guidance).
Risks flagged
Cocoa price volatility (El Nino, pod counts, spec positioning); Middle East conflict incremental cost and revenue impact; European heat wave reducing chocolate consumption in Q2/Q3; subdued consumer confidence and inflation/affordability pressures in North America; macroeconomic uncertainty possible deceleration.
