About Hexcel

Hexcel makes advanced structural materials that go into aircraft, defense systems, and a range of industrial goods. Among its products are carbon fiber, reinforced fabrics, prepregs, adhesives, honeycomb cores, molding compounds, and laminates, which end up in military and commercial planes, wind turbine blades, sporting goods, and parts for cars, boats, and trains. The company is widely recognized for these composite materials that support aerospace construction.

Its operations run through two segments. One, Composite Materials, handles the manufacture and marketing of the raw materials noted above. The other, Engineered Products, turns out finished aircraft parts and assemblies, including wing-to-body fairings, wing panels, cockpit panels, door liners, rotor blades, spars, and tip caps, plus sub-components used in helicopter rotors, jet engine nacelles, and aircraft surfaces such as flaps and elevators. Sales happen both through Hexcel's own staff and product experts and through outside distributors and authorized agents, with customers spanning the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific, India, and Africa.

Founded in 1946, Hexcel is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, and its stock trades on the NYSE under the ticker HXL.

Last earnings call, Jul 29, 2026 AI summary

What they said
Hexcel's Q2 2026 earnings call focused on strong commercial aerospace demand driving revenue growth and margin expansion. Management (CEO Tom Gentile and new CFO Jamie Coogan) highlighted Q2 sales of $529 million, up 8.1% in constant currency, with commercial aerospace sales up 19% to $347 million and comprising 66% of sales. Management emphasized ramping production rates across major aircraft programs (A350, 787, A320, 737 MAX, A220), operational leverage, margin improvements, cash generation, and disciplined capital allocation. Key items included: target 18% EBIT margin by end of decade tied to $500 million commercial aero recovery and $200 million defense/space growth; restarting carbon fiber lines (Salt Lake City) and hiring ~400 employees (300 hired so far) to support ramp; capacity to support current peak OEM production targets without >$100M annual CapEx; favorable LTA pricing renewals contributing to pricing gains; portfolio pruning (facility closures and sales) and footprint optimization (Morocco, Decatur) to reduce costs; FX headwinds (~90 bps impact in Q2) and hedging; A350 currently profitable at present rates; potential upside from Airbus possibly increasing A350 rate and from A350-2000 variant; defense expected to grow from ~35% of sales to 40-50% long-term and sold on commercial terms; inorganic M&A considered but not current priority; MV-75 program not impacting 2026 guidance.
Guidance
- Revenue: Management raised full-year 2026 revenue guide (specific numeric guidance not in transcript, but references to increased guidance supported by firm purchase orders, adding ~3-5 A350 units and increased 737 shipments).\n- Incremental margins: Q2 incremental margin was 49%; full-year midpoint incremental margin now ~37% (up from low-30s prior).\n- Operating margin target: 18% EBIT margin by end of the decade tied to $500M commercial and $200M defense/space incremental sales.\n- CapEx: Expect to remain under $100 million annually for the next several years to support current capacity, absent significant new rate increases above OEM plans.\n- Hiring: Plan to hire ~400 employees in 2026 (300 already hired).\nNote: No explicit numeric EPS or full-year revenue figures were provided in the transcript; guidance references are qualitative and directional.
Risks flagged
- FX headwinds: dollar weakening was a ~90 bps headwind to margins in Q2; continued dollar weakness could be detrimental.\n- Cost inflation: Ongoing cost pressure requiring productivity, pricing, and digitization to offset.\n- Seasonality and staffing: Hiring and restarting carbon fiber lines create near-term margin headwinds and start-up expenses.\n- Geopolitical: Middle East tensions (Iran conflict) could cause incremental expenses and demand uncertainty.\n- Capacity lead-time: Adding capacity above current peak rates could require ~3 years lead-time and additional capital if OEMs increase production beyond current plans.\n- Program uncertainty: Defense programs (e.g., MV-75 funding) and potential new OEM platform timing could be uncertain; A350-2000 speculation could require capacity/capex decisions.
