What they said
Boeing's Q2 2026 call highlighted operational recovery and improving financial performance while acknowledging remaining execution risks. Management emphasized safety and quality, noted FAA authorization to resume issuing airworthiness certificates for 737 MAX and 787, and reported stronger production — BCA delivered 171 airplanes (highest quarterly total since 2018) and the company is on track for 500 737 deliveries in 2026. Consolidated revenue was $24.6 billion (up 8%), operating margin improved to 0.6%, core EPS loss narrowed to $(0.76), and free cash flow was positive $631 million. Management described progress on key certification and flight-test programs (777X 55% complete), recovery plans with suppliers (notably engine deliveries for the 787 with GE), and integration progress with Spirit/Wichita. They reiterated a plan to ramp 737 production from current rates (47/month) to 52/month and discussed potential further increases to 57 and 63/month contingent on supply chain performance. Defense & Space (BDS) margins showed improvement (3.5% in Q2), with an expectation of sequential improvement toward mid-to-high single digits by the end of the decade; full-year BDS margin including the VC-25B charge was cited around ~2.5%. Management emphasized record backlog ($597 billion) as a tailwind and outlined drivers for back-half free cash flow including delivery cadence, KC-46 expected advances in Q4, and improved BDS performance. Q&A focused on supply chain constraints at higher rate breaks, engine and seat-certification impacts on 787 deliveries, labor negotiations with SPEEA, fixed-price program risks (e.g., Starliner), 777X change-incorporation, and Wichita/Spirit integration.
Guidance
- 737 deliveries: on track to deliver 500 airplanes in 2026. - 737 production rates: currently at rate 47, plan to move to 52; management discussed potential future rates of 57 and 63 contingent on supply chain readiness. - Free cash flow: positive $631M in Q2; management said drivers imply stronger Q4 and expressed confidence in the midpoint of the yearly FCF guide; expects KC-46 advance in Q4. - BDS profitability: Q2 core margin 3.5%; full-year BDS margin ~2.5% including VC-25B; management expects sequential annual improvement toward high single-digit margins by decade end. - No new explicit numeric revenue or EPS guidance beyond these program/delivery and margin comments.
Risks flagged
- Supply-chain constraints at higher 737 production rates (noted risk moving from 52 to 57 and beyond). - Engine delivery shortfalls for the 787 (working with GE; recovery plan ongoing). - Seat certifications causing lumpy deliveries through the remainder of the year. - Labor negotiations with SPEEA (possible work stoppage risk, negotiations through October timeframe). - Pricing drags, concessions and legacy pricing pressure on 737 and 787 affecting margins. - Fixed-price program risks (Starliner timing uncertainty with NASA; change-incorporation on 777X and earlier aircraft that require more work). - Execution risk in ramping Wichita/Spirit facilities for higher rates (capital and integration work required). - Macro uncertainty (implicitly referenced) and timing of customer receipts/advances that affect cash flow.
