Last earnings call, Jul 29, 2026 AI summary

What they said
General Dynamics reported a very strong Q2 2026 with revenue of $14.1 billion, operating earnings of $1.460 billion, net earnings of $1.160 billion and EPS of $4.24. Revenue was up 8.1% year-over-year and operating margin improved to 10.4% (+40 bps). All segments contributed growth, led by Aerospace and Marine; Aerospace deliveries (41) and Gulfstream order momentum were highlighted, Combat Systems showed strong order activity (2.1x book-to-bill) driven by international demand and munitions, Marine Systems demonstrated accelerating shipyard productivity and backlog growth (driven by Columbia and Virginia-class), and Technologies (Mission Systems and GDIT) grew modestly with encouraging wins in international and agile contracting. Cash generation was robust: operating cash flow of $1.9 billion in the quarter and >$4 billion year-to-date; free cash flow conversion guidance was raised to ~105% of net income for 2026. Management discussed continued supply chain improvements, workforce progress at shipyards, AI and digital investments at GDIT, and a planned ~$500 million pension contribution. Management raised full-year EPS guidance and provided detailed segment and company revenue and margin expectations.
Guidance
Company 2026 revenue ~ $55.7 billion; operating margin ~10.5%; EPS increased to $16.80 - $16.90 (from prior range $16.45 - $16.55). Segment guidance: Aerospace revenue ~ $13.8 billion (Gulfstream ~160 deliveries) with ~14.7% margin; Combat revenue ~ $9.8 billion with ~13.8% margin; Marine revenue ~ $18.0 billion with ~7.4% margin; Technologies revenue ~ $14.1 billion with ~9.4% margin. Capex expected 3.5% - 4% of sales for full year. Free cash flow conversion ~105% of net income for the year. Planned pension contribution ~ $500 million; cash taxes > $500 million expected in second half.
Risks flagged
Supply chain pockets of single-source risk and remaining constraints; potential procurement/budget uncertainty (CRs, reconciliation timing) that could affect Technologies and other programs; timing risk on Navy submarine contract awards (Block VI) and associated long-lead material; planned production gap between G280 and G300 could create temporary production/absorption effects; elevated second-half capital expenditures, pension contribution and back-half weighted tax payments that will reduce H2 cash flow; elongated IT procurement cycles for some GDIT work.
