Entergy is an American power company that generates and delivers electricity to homes and businesses across parts of the South, with a particular presence in the New Orleans metropolitan area. It is widely recognized for operating a mix of power plants that run on natural gas, nuclear, coal, hydroelectric, and solar energy, giving it a combined generating capacity of roughly 26,000 megawatts, of which about 6,000 megawatts comes from nuclear sources. Alongside electricity, it also distributes natural gas to customers in its service territories.
The company operates through two main arms. The Utility division handles the full chain of producing, moving, distributing and selling electricity, serving around 3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The Entergy Wholesale Commodities division owns and runs nuclear plants, including their eventual decommissioning, holds interests in some non-nuclear facilities, and sells power to wholesale buyers such as retail power providers, other utilities, electric cooperatives, energy trading firms and fellow generators. It also provides services to other operators of nuclear plants.
Entergy traces its history back to 1913 and is headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. Its shares are listed on the NYSE under the ticker ETR.
