About Ouster

Ouster makes lidar sensors used to help machines sense and map their surroundings, serving customers in automotive, industrial, robotics, and smart infrastructure markets across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Its core line, the Outer Sensor series, spans models built for different fields of view, from a hemispheric option to wide, mid, and long-range configurations, giving buyers sensors suited to varying distances and coverage needs.

Beyond that core line, Ouster also supplies solid-state digital lidar sensors aimed at driver assistance and autonomous driving applications, along with surround-view sensors under the Velodyne name in several resolution and range variants. Its product set extends to a perception platform for monitoring smart infrastructure, a related tool for traffic planning and safety work, and a camera system that captures 2D and 3D color data alongside AI computing capability. The company is also working on solid-state flash sensors intended to deliver consistent imaging without motion blur across a full field of view.

Ouster was founded in 2015 and is based in San Francisco, California. Its shares are listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker OUST.

What they said
Ouster reported a strong Q2 2026 with record revenue of $55M and over 17,000 sensors shipped, marking the company’s 14th consecutive quarter of product revenue growth. Management highlighted broad-based demand across industrial and smart infrastructure verticals (warehouse automation, yard logistics, port automation, mining, ITS), meaningful early wins and deployments for its BlueCity traffic product (New Jersey, Georgia, Utah) and strong initial customer reception for Rev8 (OS1 Max, native color) that the company expects to drive revenue and market expansion over the next several years. The Stereolabs acquisition (stereo cameras) contributed materially in the quarter and is driving growth in robotics and humanoid markets; the company is actively scaling production capacity (partnership with Benchmark/BET) to meet rising demand. Financially, GAAP gross margin improved to 49% (helped by a one-time refund), GAAP operating expenses rose ~10% year-over-year due to integration and product investments, and management reiterated confidence in the long-term model while guiding normalized product gross margins to roughly the mid-to-high 30s percent range. Management emphasized execution, operating leverage potential, and cross-selling opportunities between lidar and camera product sets.
Guidance
Revenue expectation for Q3 and Q4 remains "on track" per management (no specific top-line targets disclosed). Estimated total royalty revenue for full-year 2026: ~ $5 million. Management anticipates third-quarter operating expenses to increase roughly 5%–8% (quarter-over-quarter). Management expects Rev8 to be a core revenue driver for the next ~5 years and anticipates a ~2-year transition period from Rev7 to Rev8.
Risks flagged
One-time refunds materially impacted gross margin in the current (and prior) year and are not expected to reoccur; supply chain and capacity scaling risks as the company expands production (need to ramp to meet demand and avoid backlog slippage); integration and execution risk tied to Stereolabs and Benchmark partnerships; competitive and technological risks inherent to lidar/camera markets; general macro/industry adoption timing uncertainties (disclaimer).
