What they said
Chime reported an exceptionally strong Q2 2026 with broad-based growth across active members (+20% YoY to 10.4M), revenue (+27% YoY), card purchase volume and payment revenue. The company highlighted product momentum from the newly launched Chime Prime membership, Chime Invest, and credit products (MyPay expansions and an upcoming line of credit) as drivers of higher-quality member acquisition and ARPAM growth. Operating leverage was evident with adjusted EBITDA margin expanding to 15% (up 12 points YoY) and the company delivering its second consecutive quarter of GAAP net income. Management announced an organizational reorg/reduction in force to create leaner teams, a CFO transition (Matt Newcomb departing; Mark Troughton interim CFO), and continued reinvestment of some savings into growth. Enterprise (workplace) offering secured a large U.S. employer and pipeline strength was reiterated, but enterprise meaningful contribution to member growth is expected in 2027, not 2026. Credit performance (MyPay, instant loans) remained strong with loss rates below 1% and transaction profit margins improving, though management flagged a small expected uptick in loss rates as limits increase. Overall the tone was confident and constructive, management raised full-year guidance and increased the full-year active member net add target to 1.8 million, while noting some near-term cost dynamics (modestly higher Q2 rewards costs that are expected to moderate in Q3).
Guidance
Raised full-year active member net add target to 1.8 million (from prior 1.4 million). Management said they are raising full-year revenue and adjusted EBITDA guidance (management referenced a revenue midpoint increase of roughly $60 million and EBITDA midpoint increase of ~$47 million in the Q&A). Expectation that payroll costs will be kept flat relative to 2026; reward costs to moderate in Q3; modest uptick in MyPay loss rates expected in Q3/Q4 but offset by higher transaction profit. Enterprise expected to contribute meaningfully to direct deposit growth in 2027 but not materially to 2026 member growth.
Risks flagged
CFO departure and transition risk; reduction in force/organizational restructure could create short-term disruption; Q2 rewards costs were modestly higher than expected; management expects a slight uptick in loss rates as credit limits expand (MyPay) which could pressure credit performance if worse than modeled; long enterprise sales cycles (6-12 months) mean timing and adoption risk for B2B channel; broader macro or consumer health deterioration could still negatively impact lending products and deposit behavior despite current resilience.
