Last earnings call, Aug 13, 2026 AI summary

What they said
Nu Holdings reported a strongly positive Q2 2026 quarter highlighted by its first quarter generating over $1 billion in net income. Key operational metrics improved: customer base reached 139 million (118M Brazil, 16M Mexico as of end of July, >5M Colombia), engagement/activity rates rose to 83.5% (Brazil >86%), ARPAC reached $17, gross revenue was $5.9 billion, and efficiency ratio was a low 20%. The credit portfolio grew to $39.4 billion (up 37% YoY) with broad-based growth across credit cards, unsecured and secured lending; deposits recovered to $45.3 billion with an 18% YoY increase. Management emphasized disciplined underwriting, short-duration products, and advantages from being primary bank for many customers. AI is being integrated across credit underwriting, pricing and product personalization; management highlighted productivity gains and model improvements but maintained disciplined monitoring. Mexico and Colombia remain key growth markets, and the U.S. is a future expansion with a staged approach. Q&A focused on technical items: impact of the government renegotiation program (Desenrola) on provisions and NIM, staging of affected loans, NPL seasonality vs mix shifts, private payroll product progress, and model portability to the U.S. Management tone was confident, factual and measured.
Guidance
Management provided qualitative forward guidance: they expect risk-adjusted net interest margin to remain in the same region as current levels (around the mid-teens on a managerial measure; management referenced ~12% risk-adjusted NIM as the ballpark). They also stated they will limit initial U.S. entry incremental spend to no more than 100 basis points of the efficiency ratio. No specific numeric revenue, EPS, or formal quarter/year guidance was issued.
Risks flagged
Mentioned risks and headwinds included macroeconomic uncertainty in Brazil (but management does not take directional bets), potential further impact from the government renegotiation program (Desenrola) affecting provisions, seasonality and mix shifts increasing NPL volatility (particularly driven by portfolio mix changes), Mexico deposit optimization (lowering deposits intentionally), a small Stage 3 portfolio related to the renegotiation program, attrition and hiring dynamics tied to return-to-office decisions, and the challenge/time required (12–30 months) to build credit model confidence and data richness in the U.S. market.
