About WEC Energy

WEC Energy provides households and businesses across the United States with natural gas and electric service, covering both regulated utility supply and renewable energy work that falls outside standard rate regulation. Power reaches customers through a generation mix that draws on coal, natural gas, oil, hydropower, wind, solar and biomass. Alongside generating electricity, the company carries it over transmission lines, moves and delivers natural gas to retail users, and also produces and markets steam.

Its operations fall under six segments: Wisconsin, Illinois, Other States, Electric Transmission, Non-Utility Energy Infrastructure, and Corporate and Other. Delivering this service depends on a large physical footprint, including tens of thousands of miles of overhead and buried electric lines backed by hundreds of substations and hundreds of thousands of transformers, plus a comparably sized network of gas distribution and transmission pipe, millions of individual gas hookups, numerous gate stations, and underground storage sites holding a large volume of working gas.

WEC Energy dates back to 1981 and was called Wisconsin Energy Corporation before switching to its current name in June 2015. The company is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and trades on the NYSE under the ticker WEC.

Last earnings call, Jul 29, 2026 AI summary

What they said
WEC Energy Group reported Q2 2026 earnings of $0.91 per share, up $0.15 year-over-year. Management emphasized execution, financial discipline, and operating efficiency, and reiterated full-year 2026 EPS guidance of $5.51 to $5.61 (assuming normal weather). Key growth drivers discussed were accelerated regional economic development—particularly large data center demand from Microsoft, Vantage (Oracle), and potential additional hyperscaler customers—transmission investments (ATC line), and energy infrastructure improvements. The company highlighted grid-based growth, incremental AFUDC equity, sales growth, tax benefits, and energy infrastructure gains (including insurance recovery and absence of prior-year impairments) as contributors to the quarter’s performance. Management noted some headwinds including weather impacts, higher depreciation and O&M, and workforce constraints on certain programs (e.g., Illinois pipe program). Legal and regulatory matters were discussed at length: Oracle has filed a legal challenge related to collateral requirements for very large customer (VLC) arrangements, but management expressed confidence the active projects (Port Washington/Vantage site) remain on time and on budget, and that tariff protections and collateral requirements are robust. Management also discussed capital plan funding (comfortable with ATM program and considering other options), dividend policy (board increased dividend 6.7%, targeting 6.5%-7% annual growth), potential generation capacity choices (including gas combined-cycle options and long-term consideration of nuclear), and timing for decisions (Point Beach/generation to be addressed on the Q3 call).
Guidance
Reiterated full-year 2026 EPS guidance of $5.51 to $5.61 per share (assumes normal weather). Dividend increased by 6.7% and management targets dividend growth of 6.5%–7%. Expectation that full-year weather-normalized electric sales (excluding iron ore mine and VLC customers) will be relatively flat with 2025. Management to finalize Point Beach/generation decision on the Q3 call. Comfortable raising ~$1.1B via ATM program in 2026; targeting approximately 50% equity for incremental projects (guidance around financing strategy).
Risks flagged
Legal challenge from Oracle over VLC collateral requirements; potential political/regulatory risk in Wisconsin including possible data center moratorium proposals; workforce and labor constraints affecting project execution (noted in Illinois pipe program); weather variability impacting short-term results; potential credit rating concerns and collateral requirements for customers; pending approvals (e.g., ATC transmission filing) and timing risks; uncertainty over longer-term generation choices and potential supply-chain/timing impacts for capital projects.
