About Range Resources

Range Resources works as an independent energy company operating in the United States, with its activities centered on natural gas, natural gas liquids, and crude oil. Its business involves finding, developing, and acquiring hydrocarbon reserves, with operations concentrated in the Appalachian region of the northeastern United States, where it holds leasing rights across a large stretch of net acreage and runs over a thousand producing wells.

The company sells its natural gas and natural gas liquids to a range of buyers, including utilities, midstream and marketing firms, industrial users, petrochemical companies, commodity traders, and gas processors. It also moves oil and condensate to crude processing plants, transport companies, and refining and marketing firms, giving it a customer base spread across several stages of the energy supply chain.

Range Resources traces its roots to 1976 and was originally known as Lomak Petroleum, Inc. before taking its current name in 1998. It is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and its shares are listed on the NYSE under the ticker RRC.

What they said
Range Resources reported strong second quarter 2026 operational and financial results, hitting record drilling and completion efficiencies, delivering 2.3 BCFe/d production in Q2 and reaffirming a ramp to 2.5 BCFe/d by year-end and 2.6 BCFe/d in 2027. Management highlighted operational milestones (drilling lateral feet, completion stages and crew productivity), improved marketing economics (NGL premiums and export growth), continued capital discipline (capital in Q2 $222 million, return to single rig/frac crew operation by Q4), and substantial shareholder returns (year-to-date $105 million buybacks, $47 million dividends, $337 million debt reduction). They emphasized the company’s differentiated position due to blocky acreage, low full-cycle costs, marketing flexibility (East Coast export access, Repauno dock), and a long Marcellus inventory supporting growth optionality into 2028+. During Q&A management reiterated confidence in the multi-year growth plan, addressed balance sheet/credit rating questions, discussed potential midstream or in-basin opportunities to provide a “home” for future volumes, and provided color on processing/gathering/transportation options.
Guidance
Production: Q3 ~2.4 BCFe/d; Year-end 2026 target 2.5 BCFe/d; 2027 target ~2.6 BCFe/d. Pricing: Full-year NGL guidance improved to +$2.50/ bbl over Mont Belvieu; full-year natural gas guidance improved to $0.35-$0.40 /Mcf versus Henry Hub. Capital: Q2 capex $222 million; management expects capital in 2027 to be similar to 2026 program (no change announced). Operational sequencing: return to single rig and single frac crew by Q4. Other: longer-term scenario example: exiting growth plan averaging 2.6 Bcf/d and using a hypothetical mid-cycle price of $3.75 could generate >$2.5 billion FCF over three years.
Risks flagged
Near-term gas price softness / curve weakness despite rising demand (front-month and seasonal price variability). Need for incremental takeaway/‘home’ for volumes to enable growth beyond 2027 (pipeline, processing, in-basin customers or long-term sales agreements). Exposure to global/dock congestion dynamics affecting NGL international netbacks (though management expects continued premiums). Potential competition for supply agreements and reliance on successful commercialization of export and in-basin demand. Credit rating (sub-investment grade) noted, though management says it has not been a commercial constraint. Macroeconomic/volume risks from higher-cost basin supply responsiveness (e.g., Permian) that could cap pricing.
