About Matson

Matson moves freight by sea and links that shipping with inland logistics. Its ocean transportation business carries goods between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, and other Micronesian islands, handling everything from refrigerated food and packaged goods to building materials, vehicles, livestock, seafood, and general retail and e-commerce cargo. It also runs an expedited service between China and Long Beach, California, with connections to South Pacific islands and Okinawa, Japan, and it is known for the terminal work, container handling, and inland transport that support these shipping routes across Hawaii and Alaska.

Beyond shipping itself, Matson operates a logistics division offering multimodal transportation brokerage, including rail intermodal, trucking of various kinds, less-than-container-load consolidation, freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution, and broader supply chain management. Its customers include the U.S. military, freight forwarders, large retailers, consumer goods companies, and automobile manufacturers.

Matson traces its roots to Honolulu, Hawaii, where it was founded in 1882, and was previously known as Alexander & Baldwin Holdings before taking its current name in June 2012. Its shares are listed on the NYSE under the ticker MATX.
