What they said
Goodyear reported Q2 2026 results that were broadly in line with prior expectations and showed sequential stabilization after a weak Q1. Global tire volumes improved sequentially (unit volumes down 4% YoY), with Asia Pacific a clear outperformer delivering volume growth, revenue growth and margin expansion. EMEA and Asia improved versus prior year; the Americas remained challenged by a competitive marketplace and soft consumer demand but showed sequential volume improvement as channel destocking moderated. Management emphasized portfolio premiumization (18-inch+ mix up 4 percentage points YoY), OE share gains, continued execution of the Goodyear Forward cost program (>$1.5B targeted savings embedded in plans), and capacity rationalization including the Fayetteville closure. Financials: Q2 sales $4.3B (down ~5% YoY), gross margin down ~1 ppt, segment operating income ~$36M, and adjusted EPS loss of $0.61 due to tax items and other adjustments. Management guided to roughly flat volumes in Q3 and slightly better in Q4, reiterated prior full-year operating income outlook (roughly in the ~$600M range, possibly a touch higher), and quantified key puts and takes (price/mix benefit >$200M, raw materials largely neutral on a full-year basis but with a ~$200M headwind baked into the second half, tariffs ~ $50M full-year). They expect FY2026 cash flow to be a net burn of ~$200–$300M (including Fayetteville costs ~ $100M), with further moderation in 2027 and larger benefits from Fayetteville (near $250M) accruing in 2028.
Guidance
Q3 volumes: roughly flat year-over-year; Q4: slightly better than flat. Full-year operating income outlook reiterated roughly in the ~$600M range (management said possibly a touch higher). Raw materials: company expects roughly neutral full-year impact but earlier guidance baked in ~$200M headwind in the second half. Tariffs: ~$50M full-year impact. FY2026 cash flow: expected net cash burn ~$200–$300M (including about $100M Fayetteville-related costs). Goodyear Forward savings >$1.5B expected to be realized/embedded in plans.
Risks flagged
Risks noted include volatility in raw material costs (with lagging P&L effects), competitive pressure especially in the Americas, soft consumer demand, channel destocking effects, overcapacity leading to plant closures, tariff impacts, elevated tax expense in the quarter, and near-term cash burn pressures into 2027.
