ArcBest moves freight by road, air, and sea, combining its own trucking operations with brokered transportation capacity. It carries general commodities ranging from food, textiles, and furniture to chemicals, metal products, machinery, and automotive parts, and it is recognized for its less-than-truckload trucking service that handles these goods across North America, including cross-border moves into Mexico.
The company runs through two business segments. One owns and operates the trucking network that handles less-than-truckload freight. The other arranges transportation without owning the underlying equipment, covering ground expediting, brokered capacity such as dry van, refrigerated, flatbed, and intermodal shipping, ocean freight in both partial and full container loads, warehousing, distribution, and managed transportation. This segment also handles consumer moving services, final mile and time-sensitive deliveries, retail logistics, trade show shipping, and international freight combining air, ocean, and ground transport.
ArcBest was founded in 1923 and is based in Fort Smith, Arkansas. It traded previously as Arkansas Best Corporation before adopting its present name in 2014. Its shares are listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker ARCB.
