About Schneider National

Schneider National provides trucking and logistics services across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It moves freight over the road using dry van, bulk, temperature-controlled, and flat-bed trailers, and also handles time-sensitive shipments along with cross-docking work. It is recognized for combining this long-haul trucking capability with rail-based container transport and broader supply chain support.

The company runs three main segments. Its Truckload arm covers standard and regional freight hauling, while its Intermodal arm manages container movement by rail and local drayage using its own containers, chassis, and trucks. The Logistics segment adds freight brokerage, supply chain management, import and export handling, transloading, and warehousing. Schneider National also leases trucks to independent owner-operators and sells insurance coverage to both its own drivers and these operators.

Schneider National was founded in 1935 and is headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Its shares are listed on the NYSE under the ticker SNDR.

What they said
Schneider reported a stronger-than-expected Q2 characterized by sequential earnings more than doubling and year-over-year improvement across segments. Key drivers were revenue management, productivity gains from technology, execution of a $40 million cost savings program, favorable equipment sale pricing, and a supply-driven freight market benefiting from regulatory enforcement that removed non-compliant capacity. Enterprise revenues excluding fuel surcharge were $1.3 billion (up 4% YoY), adjusted income from operations was $73 million (up 29% YoY), and adjusted diluted EPS was $0.29 versus $0.21 a year ago. Segment highlights included modest truckload revenue growth (+1% YoY) with higher revenue per truck per week, network revenue growth (+8% YoY; revenue per truck per week +16% YoY), continued intermodal (IM) traction driven by dray market tightness and Mexico growth, and logistics profitability improvements driven by premium project business and productivity gains. Management emphasized being structurally stronger, disciplined capacity and pricing actions, and a robust sales pipeline. They reiterated long-term margin targets by segment and signaled momentum into the back half of the year while acknowledging uncertainties in demand, driver availability, regulatory impacts, and macro factors.
Risks flagged
Regulatory enforcement and compliance actions (non-domiciled CDL usage, cabotage restrictions, entry-level driver training enforcement, ELD tampering/enforcement); driver capacity constraints and supply attrition; inflationary pressure (energy costs); interest-rate driven weakness in end markets (e.g., housing); potential litigation and safety-related risks; third-party capacity cost increases.
