AI summary

QUALCOMM closes at $177.72, down 5.8%, with the stock sitting above both its 50-day average of $168.52 and its 200-day average of $168.55. The GekkoIndex reads 52.5, placing QCOM in the Neutral zone, while the price stands 9.3% above Gekko Fair Value of $162.56. Over the past month the shares are up 9.8%, though the three-month return is negative at -21.4%, and the stock remains 27.40% below its 52-week high.

This week's move centers on a pullback after a recent rally, with QCOM falling 6% in profit-taking that also touched RF peers Skyworks Solutions and Qorvo. Alongside this, coverage points to a partnership with Amazon Web Services to develop AI silicon for data centers, and to MediaTek's market capitalization of $223 billion surpassing Qualcomm's $200.6 billion as its new Dimensity 9600 Pro processor targets premium smartphones. A 13F filing also shows Nykredit A S taking a new stake in the company.

Looking ahead, the next earnings report is scheduled for 4 November 2026, 45 days away and after the close, following a prior quarter where EPS of $1.53 missed the $1.54 estimate and the stock reacted -6.9%. Over the last 90 days Congress recorded 2 buys and 0 sells, and the last 30 days show 4 unusual options signals, with call premium of $13.8 million against put premium of $7.0 million. Seasonality over the next 20 trading days has averaged -2.5% across 5 years, positive in 2 of them, a pattern worth noting given the current gap to fair value.

About QUALCOMM

QUALCOMM builds the technical foundations that make wireless communication possible, turning that work into chips, software and patented know-how used throughout the industry. The company is widely recognized for the processors and system software that drive voice and data connectivity, networking, application handling, multimedia and location features in countless devices, as well as for the patents behind major mobile standards.

Its activities fall into three areas. One unit designs integrated circuits and accompanying software drawing on 3G, 4G, 5G and other wireless advances. Another collects fees for licensing a large body of patents tied to standards including CDMA2000, WCDMA, LTE and OFDMA-based 5G, which device makers need to manufacture and sell compliant products. A third group makes investments in younger companies working in fields like 5G, artificial intelligence, automotive systems, consumer devices, business software, cloud services and connected devices, with the aim of helping new offerings reach both current and future communication markets. Separately, QUALCOMM offers engineering and related products to U.S. government bodies and their contractors.

The company traces back to 1985 and operates out of San Diego, California. Its stock trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker QCOM.

Last earnings call, Jul 29, 2026 AI summary

What they said
QUALCOMM reported fiscal Q3 revenue of $9.9 billion (high end of guidance) and non-GAAP EPS of $2.21. QCT revenue was $8.5 billion driven by record automotive ($1.6B, +61% YoY) and IoT growth; QTL licensing revenue was $1.3 billion with a 69% EBT margin. Management reiterated a multi-year strategic pivot into data center (four product lines), agentic and physical AI compute, and full-stack software/platform solutions, raising the non-handset revenue target to $40B by fiscal 2029 (including >$15B data center and >$24B automotive/IoT). Near-term headwinds include elevated memory prices, higher input and manufacturing costs, and supply chain constraints that pressured QCT gross margins. Management is implementing broad, double-digit pricing actions that should gradually offset higher input costs over several quarters. Data center custom ASIC revenue will begin in the December quarter and ramp through fiscal 2027, with initial impact expected from two large hyperscaler engagements. Apple-related revenues are stepping down faster than prior expectations (~50% decline Sept→Dec quarter) due to supply/allocations; management expects Android growth and non-handset ramps to offset this in fiscal 2027. Company returned $2.3B to shareholders in the quarter ($1.4B buybacks, $937M dividends). Management tone was confident and strategic while acknowledging short-term margin and supply challenges.
Guidance
Fiscal '27 top-line growth expected (driven by inflection in non-handset revenues). Data center revenue to start in the December quarter and ramp through fiscal 2027 from two custom ASIC engagements. Non-handset revenue target of $40B by fiscal 2029 (> $24B automotive & IoT, > $15B data center). QCT gross margins expected to realign to historical range (48-50%) over time as pricing actions take effect; data center revenue expected to be dilutive to QCT gross margin by ~1.5%–2% on a weighted-average basis. Management expects China handset revenue to bottom in Q3 and return to double-digit sequential growth in Q4. Pricing increases are broad-based and expected to be in the double-digit percentage range.
Risks flagged
Elevated memory prices and other input-cost inflation; higher manufacturing and supply chain costs (wafer, assembly, test, packaging) causing margin pressure; supply constraints that affected product allocations (notably Apple) and could continue to impact revenue mix; data center revenue initially lower-margin relative to baseline QCT, diluting gross margins; potential geopolitical or U.S.-China restrictions (not currently impacting disclosed engagements, but a medium/long-term risk); execution risk in ramping new data center products and unlocking additional customers beyond the two disclosed hyperscalers.
