Last earnings call, Jul 28, 2026 AI summary

What they said
Pentair held its Q2 2026 earnings call. Management announced the acquisition of Taco Group Holdings and discussed Q2 results. Q2 sales were $933 million, adjusted operating income $237 million, ROS 25.4%, adjusted EPS $1.14. Core sales down 17% YoY driven primarily by $170 million pool channel inventory destocking. Flow and Water Solutions performed well, delivering record ROS and order wins. Management believes pool underperformance is temporary, expects inventory destocking to be cleared by Q3 and robust growth in pool in 2027 (Bob suggested pool could grow from $1.25B to ~$1.45B next year driven by returning inventory). Taco acquisition expected to add growth and $30M cost synergies over 2-3 years; run as standalone unit with cross-sell opportunities. Management plans to prioritize debt paydown (targeting reducing leverage from 2.4x to ~1.5x over two years) while maintaining dividend and optional share buybacks. Actions taken to address pool channel issues include re-engaging dealers, moderating pricing (3-5% next year vs. 7-8% prior), and refocusing product roadmap and dealer support. Flow and Water Solutions expected to continue ROS expansion and top-line growth, with some geographic headwinds in Europe. Management tone: candid about pool missteps (e.g., 80/20 implementation issues), confident in remediation plans, optimistic about Taco acquisition and segment performance. Q&A tone was cooperative and direct; management provided clear targets and timelines for synergies and inventory destocking.
Guidance
- Expectation that Pool, Flow and Water Solutions will deliver improved revenue growth in H2 2026. - Pool: Management provided a 2026 ship-in figure for pool around $1.25B and suggested a potential 2027 sell-through/ship-in around $1.45B (implying significant growth in 2027 driven by inventory normalization). They expect inventory destocking (~$200M) to be cleared by Q3 2026. Pricing moderation guidance: expect 3%-5% price increases next year (vs prior 7%-8%). - Taco acquisition: $30M of cost synergies expected over 2-3 years; Taco to be run as a standalone within Water Solutions. - Leverage: plan to use free cash flow to reduce net debt from 2.4x to ~1.5x over two years, while maintaining dividend and some buyback optionality. - No formal full-year revenue or EPS guidance reiterated on call beyond segment color and the pool ship-in/run-rate figures.
Risks flagged
- Pool channel inventory destocking and underperformance impacting near-term revenue and margins. - Implementation missteps from 80/20 customer segmentation causing lost share with smaller distributors and dealers. - Macro headwinds: geopolitical events (Middle East conflict), fuel price spikes, interest rate increases, and regional economic softness (Europe) could depress sell-through and order timing. - Integration risk for Taco (margin dilution initially) though managed as standalone with light-touch integration. - Execution risk in regaining pool aftermarket share and reestablishing dealer relationships.
