Looking ahead, the next earnings date is 28 October, 38 days out and beyond a typical 20-trading-day hold; the prior report on 22 July showed EPS of $1.01 against a $1.00 estimate with a -1.6% reaction, and the company has beaten estimates in 4 of the last 8 quarters, averaging a 3.6% absolute move. Last earnings call, Jul 22, 2026 AI summary

What they said
Otis reported a solid Q2 2026 with strong top-line growth driven by service (9% organic growth), particularly modernization (24%) and repair (12%), and improving new equipment trends (sequential improvement; Americas +10%). Backlog remains strong (modernization backlog +26% YoY). Cash generation was robust (adjusted free cash flow $290M, +19% YoY), enabling ~$800M share repurchases and a 5% dividend increase in H1. Management emphasized investments in service quality, capacity, pricing (including AI micro-pricing), and a $50M Service Excellence investment program. However, service margins declined (service operating margin 23.2%, down 170 bps YoY) due to higher labor and material costs, mix (higher modernization), productivity headwinds from service quality ramp-up, and tempered micro-pricing in maintenance to protect retention. Management revised 2026 financial outlook: adjusted operating profit lowered (range: down $30M to flat actual currency; down $45M to $15M constant currency), adjusted free cash flow now $1.5–$1.55B, and adjusted EPS now $4.01–$4.05. Management expects mid-single-digit organic sales growth and net sales $15.1–$15.3B, with service remaining the growth engine and profit recovery expected to build into Q4 as initiatives take hold. During the Q&A, management acknowledged retention recovery is taking longer than expected, explained the decision to temper maintenance micro-pricing (to prioritize retention where service quality is still recovering), discussed productivity and material inflation headwinds, reiterated confidence in long-term growth from an aging installed base, and emphasized executing the strong modernization and repair backlog.
Guidance
Net sales: $15.1 - $15.3 billion; Organic sales growth: low to mid-single digits. Adjusted operating profit: range down $30M to flat (actual currency); down $45M to $15M (constant currency). Adjusted free cash flow: $1.5B - $1.55B. Adjusted EPS: $4.01 - $4.05. Q3: service organic mid-single-digit growth; service margin around mid-24%; total adjusted operating profit flattish (EPS down due to tax calendarization). Expect momentum building into Q4 with service margin ~25% exit and profit growth in Q4.
Risks flagged
Retention pressures (notable in Americas), productivity headwinds from service quality ramp-up, tempered micro-pricing and potential cancellations, labor supply and technical hiring challenges, inflation in materials/repair parts and commodity (steel) cost exposure, geopolitical risks (monitoring Middle East conflict), execution risk converting sizable backlog into profitable revenue, and sensitivity to foreign exchange.
