Suzano grows and processes eucalyptus trees into pulp and paper items that reach customers well outside Brazil, where it is rooted. It has built its name on converting fiber into printing and writing papers, paperboard and tissue, while also selling market and fluff pulp plus lignin and related byproducts.
Its work is split between a Pulp division and a Paper division, and it branches into additional areas like producing biofuel, running port terminals, generating and distributing power, and trading equipment, parts, paper and computer supplies. Day-to-day, the company manages its own office functions, packages what it produces and arranges its own financing. It also puts effort into biotech work, moving from lab research to actual output of wood-derived textile fibers, yarns and filaments made from cellulose and microfibrillated cellulose, and it studies fresh types of wood suited to textile uses.
Suzano dates back to 1924 and once carried the name Suzano Papel e Celulose S.A., switching to its current name in April 2019. It runs its headquarters out of Salvador, Brazil, and trades its shares under the ticker SUZ.
