About Kaiser Aluminum

Kaiser Aluminum makes semi-finished aluminum mill products, turning raw metal into rolled, extruded and drawn goods for customers in the United States and abroad. It is known for supplying materials used across aerospace and defense, automotive, general engineering, and food and beverage packaging, ranging from structural extrusions and drawn tubing to bare and coated coil stock.

The company's output serves distinct end markets: automotive customers receive extruded parts for structural components, crash systems, anti-lock brakes and drive shafts, along with fabrication work like sawing to length. Its packaging line centers on 3000- and 5000-series aluminum coils for food and beverage containers, while its general engineering offerings include plates, sheets, rods, bars, tubes, wires and extrusion shapes used in military vehicles, semiconductor equipment, electronics, tooling and fasteners. Products reach customers through company sales teams in the United States, Canada, Western Europe and China, supplemented by independent sales agents covering other parts of Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Kaiser Aluminum was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Foothill Ranch, California. Its shares are listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker KALU.

What they said
Kaiser Aluminum reported a strong Q1 2026 with record Adjusted EBITDA and improving margins. Management highlighted continued momentum from 2025, accelerating customer demand, longer lead times, firming pricing, and successful ramp of new capacity (including a fourth coating line at Warrick). Conversion revenue rose 11% year-over-year to $404 million, driven by strength in packaging, aerospace & high strength, and general engineering. Management raised full-year outlook and expects 2026 to be a step change in performance. Key operational themes included mix shift toward higher value-added coated products, improved plant performance, reduced one-time startup costs, and secure metal supply. During Q&A management was confident, attributing results to operational execution, mix, pricing power, and favorable market dynamics (reshoring, increased defense/space spending, recovering commercial aerospace). Some operational challenges remain (converter on-time delivery issues and cautious ramp of new coating line at ~80% utilization) and metal price volatility and forward curves were noted as variables to monitor.
Guidance
Management raised the full-year outlook (no specific consolidated revenue/EBITDA numbers disclosed on the call). They provided end-market guidance: aerospace & high strength shipments expected to grow 15%-20% in 2026 with conversion revenue growth of 10%-15%. Warrick's new fourth coating line is targeted to operate at ~80% utilization in 2026 while quality and consistency are optimized.
Risks flagged
Persistent operational challenges with certain external converters (on-time delivery shortfalls) could constrain packaging shipments; elevated and volatile metal prices/forward curves could affect lag benefits and spreads; some continued destocking in certain plate products within commercial aerospace customers; historical one-time startup costs (largely behind them) could have affected prior-year comparatives; general macro/industry risks including import dynamics, tariff changes, and supply chain shifts.
