Everest's stock has drawn several analyst moves this week, the main theme behind the headlines. Separately, Everest Group's PEAK Matrix awards to ManpowerGroup and Kelly Professional & Industrial reference the research arm's rankings rather than Everest's own stock activity.

What they said
Everest Group reported a strong Q1 2026 driven by underwriting income and robust investment returns despite a challenging market environment and lower gross written premiums driven by strategic divestitures and runoff. Group operating income was $648 million, net income $653 million, operating ROE 16.7% and annualized total shareholder return 16.1%. Combined ratio improved to 91.2% (89.3% ex-Legacy) with $130 million pretax catastrophe losses (including $58 million provision for the Iran conflict). Net investment income was $567 million. Management emphasized prioritizing profitability and shareholder returns over top-line growth, with Treaty Reinsurance delivering strong results and the Global Wholesale & Specialty segment showing early signs of improvement though with elevated expense ratios as the segment resets. Management discussed portfolio repositioning away from certain casualty exposures, continued investment in technology and selective hiring, conservative reserve management with some favorable prior-year development mostly in property, and prudent capital management including a minimum $300 million quarterly share repurchase floor and potential for additional buybacks later in the year tied to catastrophe season and legacy reserve runoff.
Guidance
Minimum $300 million share repurchase per quarter as a floor; expect a programmatic buyback approach with potential augmentation later in the year depending on catastrophe season and release of capital from legacy reserve runoff. Underwriting expense ratio expected to be in the 6%–7% range near term; net AUM expected to be flat to marginal growth depending on premium declines, buybacks, and legacy reserve paydowns. No explicit revenue or EPS guidance provided.
Risks flagged
Uncertainty from the Iran conflict (provision included), potential further catastrophe losses (hurricane season), ongoing U.S. tort/legal environment impacting casualty lines, reserve development volatility (especially casualty), market pricing pressure in certain renewals (property and international markets), and the impact of divestitures and runoff on future premium base and AUM.
