About Deckers Outdoor

Deckers Outdoor builds and sells shoes, clothing and accessories aimed at both relaxed daily use and more demanding athletic pursuits. Its lineup spans several recognizable names: UGG covers footwear and apparel with a premium feel, Teva makes sandals along with other shoes and boots, Sanuk focuses on laid-back, easygoing footwear, Hoka targets runners and other athletes with performance-oriented gear, and Koolaburra rounds things out with casual, softly cushioned shoe styles.

The company reaches shoppers in more than one way. It sells through outside retailers such as department stores, outdoor and action-sports shops, big chain stores and online marketplaces, and it also sells straight to consumers through its own stores and web pages. This mix extends across markets including the United States, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Canada and Latin America, aided by partner retailers and distributors abroad.

The business traces back to 1973 and runs its main office out of Goleta, California. Deckers Outdoor trades on the NYSE under the ticker DECK.

What they said
Deckers Brands reported a strong start to fiscal 2027, delivering over $1.02 billion in first-quarter revenue (up 5.7% year-over-year) and diluted EPS of $0.94, both above management expectations. Growth was driven by continued strength in direct-to-consumer (DTC) channels (company-wide DTC +13% YoY; HOKA DTC +17% and UGG DTC +6%), product innovation and disciplined inventory/marketplace execution. HOKA led growth overall (total HOKA revenue up 8% to $704M) with momentum across Europe, China, Japan and the U.S.; UGG grew 5% to $278M on broader, year-round product relevance. Gross margin improved 60 basis points to 56.4% driven by favorable channel mix (DTC), product mix, full-price selling, FX benefits and better closeout management; these gains were partially offset by tariff headwinds. SG&A dollars rose 13% due to investments in people, marketing, retail expansion (HOKA stores), and technology. Management reiterated confidence in its fiscal ’27 outlook and multi-year framework, emphasized disciplined brand and inventory management and noted logistical/timing differences in wholesale shipments that affect quarter-to-quarter comparisons. Management also increased its assumed go-forward tariff rate to 12.5% (from 10%).
Guidance
Management reiterated confidence in its fiscal 2027 outlook and the company’s multi-year framework but did not provide new specific revenue or EPS numbers on the call. Key forward-looking items discussed: - Expectation of greater HOKA growth acceleration in the back half due to logistics/ship timing (wholesale/distributor shipments shifting later in the year). - Continued significant growth in DTC. - Management embedded a higher tariff assumption for the year (12.5% vs. prior 10%) in its outlook. - No material change to promotional cadence assumed for the remainder of the year; Q1 margin outperformance from closeout management treated as a unique quarter benefit.
Risks flagged
- Tariff uncertainty and related costs (company raised assumed go-forward tariff rate to 12.5%). - Timing/shipments and logistics shifts that can create quarter-to-quarter revenue volatility. - Macroeconomic pressure (e.g., energy prices in Europe) and potential warm-weather impact on seasonal categories. - Increased SG&A investments and associated costs (store openings, technology, marketing). - Foreign currency exposure and geopolitical/supply-chain risks (noted in safe harbor).
