About Carlyle

Carlyle operates as an investment firm that builds positions both directly and through fund-of-fund vehicles. Its direct work spans buyouts led by existing management, privatization deals, divestitures and minority equity stakes, while it also commits money to structured credit, distressed situations and smaller or mid-sized businesses. On the venture side, it funds companies from their earliest startup stages through later growth rounds, turnarounds and public-equity placements.

The firm splits its activity into four segments: Corporate Private Equity, Real Assets, Global Market Strategies and Solutions. Through these channels it backs businesses in fields ranging from manufacturing and chemicals to consumer goods, defense, software and semiconductors, healthcare, energy, property, banking and financial services, transport, media, agriculture and gaming. It tends to keep investments for roughly four to six years, sometimes a bit shorter, and often targets companies that are expanding or carrying substantial debt. Its portfolio touches markets across North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and parts of Africa.

Last earnings call, Aug 4, 2026 AI summary

What they said
Carlyle Group Q2 2026 earnings call highlighted record results across segments driven by strong fundraising, record fee-related earnings and distributable earnings. Management emphasized momentum across Carlyle AlpInvest, Global Credit and Global Private Equity with inflows of $16.8 billion in the quarter and $56 billion over the last 12 months, AUM reaching a record $485 billion, and distributable earnings of $472 million. Management discussed fundraising “super cycle,” new product launches including a defense and industrials platform, anchor commitments for a U.S. buyout fund, growth in wealth channel and insurance solutions, and investments in AI and technology. Finance commentary emphasized record FRE ($358M), high fee-related performance revenues, record capital markets fees, and high inflows. Management reiterated focus on investing in growth while maintaining margins near 47% in 2026 and expecting margins to improve in 2027-28 as fundraising flows through. The Q&A showed confident, positive tone, emphasizing secular and cyclical tailwinds for AlpInvest, capital markets growth as a durable capability, and selective capital deployment. No specific numeric quarterly guidance provided beyond qualitative outlook and historical pace comments.
Guidance
Management did not provide explicit quarterly or annual numeric guidance. They provided qualitative forward-looking statements: expect fundraising momentum to accelerate in H2 2026 as flagship funds enter market ("super cycle"); expect comp ratio/margins to be roughly consistent with last year around 47% in 2026 and to tick up in 2027-28 as fundraising flows through; expect continued growth in fee-related performance revenues over time driven by wealth and AlpInvest; expect continued strong realizations and continued momentum in net realized performance revenues in second half; reaffirmed confidence in $200 billion fundraising super cycle target (this seems referenced) and $2 billion buyback capacity discussion. No specific revenue or EPS guidance was issued.
Risks flagged
Risks noted included general forward-looking statement caveats: market timing/quarter-to-quarter variability of realizations and transaction flow; competition in insurance/block business; cyclicality in some credit/wealth channels; timing issues for fundraising closings; macro/geopolitical risks affecting defense spending and markets. Other risks referenced were customary investor warnings about forward-looking statements and uncertainties per Form 10-K.
