Last earnings call, Jul 20, 2026 AI summary

What they said
Calix reported Q2 2026 results with record revenue ($293M, +21% YoY) and record software & services revenue ($50M, +16% YoY). Management emphasized the successful first full quarter of the AI-native Calix One platform and the Agent Workforce Cloud rollout, noting tripled contracts and record RPOs ($386M). Software and services margins improved materially (810 bps sequential) and management expects software & service gross margin to set a new record in Q3. Appliance revenue was also a record ($243M, +23% YoY) though appliance gross margin faces pressure from higher memory costs; management implemented a monthly surcharge program and adjusted backlog surcharge policy to provide customer certainty, which shifted some margin impact into Q3 but is expected to be gross-profit neutral over time. Management reiterated confidence in a strong back half of 2026, sees accelerating RPO and software growth, and affirmed 15% annual growth targets for 2027–2028 while committing to lower OpEx growth than revenue growth (aiming for OpEx growth at half or better of revenue growth as a goal).
Guidance
Management raised the full-year guide toward the higher end of the prior range (no specific dollar figures given on the call). They expect software & service gross margin to set a new record in Q3 and expect RPO growth to accelerate in the second half of 2026. They reiterated 15% annual growth targets for 2027 and 2028 and stated a goal (not a commitment) to drive OpEx growth at half the rate of revenue growth or better next year.
Risks flagged
Key risks noted include volatility in memory costs and related surcharge dynamics (which pressured appliance gross margin and created timing impacts across quarters), timing/extent of BEAD-related revenue, competitive pressure (including satellite entrants like Starlink and local market competition), macro cost inflation across fiber, labor, construction and potential demand impacts on access CAPEX, and uncertainty in where appliance gross margins ultimately asymptote if memory prices remain elevated.
