Motorola Solutions builds the radios, cameras and networked systems that police departments, emergency responders and other organizations lean on when operations cannot afford to fail. Customers reach it in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and several other countries, and it has become closely tied to two-way radio gear and video security equipment used in public safety work.
The business runs through two segments. One, Products and Systems Integration, covers hardware such as portable and vehicle radios, fixed and mobile cameras, access control devices, base stations and consoles, plus the work of installing and connecting these pieces for government agencies, safety organizations and private companies that run their own communication or surveillance networks. The other, Software and Services, wraps around that hardware with repairs, technical help, maintenance, monitoring and cybersecurity, and it also builds software for emergency command centers, team communication and video management, available either installed on site or delivered as a cloud subscription.
Founded in 1928 under the name Motorola, Inc., the company took on its current name in January 2011 and keeps its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Its stock trades on the NYSE under the ticker MSI.
