Rigel Pharmaceuticals focuses on treatments for blood disorders and cancer, selling its medicines to patients in the United States. Its portfolio includes Tavalisse, taken by mouth to treat chronic immune thrombocytopenia in adults, Rezlidha for adults with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia carrying a specific IDH1 mutation, and Gavreto, a daily oral treatment for certain lung and thyroid cancers linked to RET fusion mutations. The company is also working on R289, an early-stage compound aimed at blood cancers as well as autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, including a lower-risk form of myelodysplastic syndrome.
Beyond its marketed products, Rigel pursues joint research efforts rather than working alone on every program. It partners with MD Anderson Cancer Center to study olutasidenib in AML and related blood cancers tied to IDH1 mutations, and takes part in the CONNECT network's trial testing olutasidenib alongside temozolomide for high-grade glioma patients with the same mutation.
The company traces back to its incorporation in 1996 and operates out of South San Francisco, California. Its shares are listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker RIGL.
