What they said
Plains All American (PAA/PAGP) reported strong second quarter 2026 results with adjusted EBITDA attributable to Plains of $738 million, supporting full-year EBITDA guidance of $2.88 billion ± $75 million. Management highlighted completed strategic actions: sale of Canadian NGL business reducing leverage to 3.3x, capture of Cactus III synergies, and planned organizational efficiencies ($50M by year-end 2026 and an additional $50M by end-2027). Growth capital was raised to $400–$450M for 2026, focused on quick-return projects, including Permian gathering build-out and Cactus III expansion (75k bpd). Management emphasized strong producer activity, market-driven opportunities (record Gulf Coast exports in Q2), and balance sheet flexibility to pursue bolt-ons, organic CapEx, or returns to unitholders. NGL segment EBITDA was $40M reflecting mid-May sale; management may consolidate segment reporting in Q3. Hedging: ~70% of pipeline loss allowance (PLA) revenue hedged at avg WTI ~$62 for remainder of year; plan to disclose 2027 hedge position in February. Free cash flow expected ~$1.75B in 2026 and significant capital returns planned. One-off environmental remediation expense ~$14M in Q2, non-recurring. Permian production exit-to-exit growth increased to 100k–200k bpd. Management refrained from explicit 2027 guidance, citing macro uncertainty from Middle East conflict but expressed constructive outlook and momentum into 2027.
Guidance
- Full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance: $2.88 billion ± $75 million. - Growth capital increased to $400M–$450M for 2026 (from $350M). - Maintenance capital lowered to $175M for 2026. - Permian production exit-to-exit growth forecast increased to 100,000–200,000 barrels/day. - Approximately 70% of pipeline loss allowance revenue hedged for the balance of 2026 at an average WTI around $62. - Expected free cash flow of approximately $1.75 billion in 2026. - Capital allocation priorities: targeted $0.15/unit annual increases, bolt-ons/organic capex, maintain strong balance sheet. - No explicit 2027 EBITDA guidance provided; 2027 hedge positions to be disclosed in February.
Risks flagged
- Macro uncertainty related to the Middle East conflict and supply disruptions (Strait of Hormuz) could materially affect markets. - Volatile oil market and price/differential volatility impacting market-based opportunities and margins. - Dependence on producer activity and ability to convert market-based opportunities into contracted volumes. - Potential competitive/structural changes (e.g., additional egress infrastructure, heavier crude inflows) that could alter differentials and margins. - One-off environmental remediation expense occurred; potential for environmental/regulatory costs (though Q2 item was non-recurring). - Execution risk for expansion projects requiring customer commitments to proceed.
