About Kinross Gold

Kinross Gold works across the gold business from start to finish, taking on the acquisition, exploration and development of gold deposits in places such as the United States, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Ghana and Mauritania. Its activities extend to mining and processing the ore that contains the gold, and it is also known for restoring sites once mining there has finished. Alongside gold, the company produces and sells silver.

The business is built around its network of affiliates operating in these different countries, which carry out the extraction, processing and site restoration work tied to each location. This structure allows Kinross Gold to run mining and rehabilitation activities across several regions rather than a single site.

Kinross Gold was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Its shares trade on the NYSE under the ticker KGC.

What they said
Kinross Gold reported a strong Q2 2026 with robust operating and financial performance, driven by high production, disciplined cost control and significant free cash flow generation. Management highlighted production of 492 koz gold equivalent in Q2, strong margins (> $3,100/oz), adjusted EPS of $0.71, and attributable free cash flow of $727 million for the quarter ($1.5 billion H1). The balance sheet strengthened to $2.7 billion cash and ~$1.9 billion net cash. The company continued returning capital (targeting 40% of free cash flow via dividends and buybacks), repurchasing shares (~$230M in Q2 plus $40M post-quarter), and paid ~$327M in taxes in Q2. Operations across the portfolio performed broadly on plan (notable strong quarters at Paracatu and Tasiast; ramping activity at Round Mountain/Phase S; weather impacts at La Coipa with limited disruption). Project and exploration progress was highlighted: permitting and engineering advances at Lobo-Marte and Great Bear (AEX permits and construction progress at Great Bear AEX; federal impact assessment process underway for Great Bear main project). Management reiterated confidence in meeting full-year targets, advancing development projects, and maintaining cost discipline, while acknowledging inflationary pressures (5% inflation assumption included in guidance), local cost increases (power in Alaska, labor tightness in Nevada), permitting timelines and contingency increases on Lobo-Marte. Leadership changes were announced (Bernard Wessels appointed COO; Claude Schimper to retire).
Guidance
Management confirmed they are positioned to meet full-year 2026 guidance (production and cost guidance at the site level as stated: Paracatu ~600 koz at ~$1,240/oz COS; Tasiast ~505 koz at ~$1,050/oz COS; La Coipa ~210 koz at ~$1,320/oz COS). Company included a 5% inflation factor in FY guidance and expects fuel impacts below ~2% to the all-in cost if fuel remains elevated. Return-of-capital target: 40% of free cash flow through dividends and buybacks. Timing expectations: Lobo-Marte permitting 2–3 years to EIA completion with construction toward end of decade; Great Bear first production targeted end of 2029 (federal final impact statement expected late spring 2029). Additional forward-looking timing: Phase X at Round Mountain first production expected in 2028; bulk sample for Great Bear expected late next year or following year (subject to schedule).
Risks flagged
Risks highlighted include permitting and regulatory timelines (Great Bear federal and provincial processes; Lobo-Marte EIA and permitting critical path), inflation and input cost pressure (power in Alaska, labor tightness in Nevada, fuel/consumables), weather and local disruption (severe winter storm in Northern Chile affecting La Coipa), execution and capital cost risk (Lobo-Marte cost increases from 2021 FS, contingency increased from ~14% to 19%), and typical commodity price sensitivity. Management also referenced standard forward-looking risks and directed listeners to the MD&A, AIF and news release for a full discussion of risks.
