Sherwin-Williams shares climbed this week even as the company flagged a softer 2027 demand outlook, with management pointing to muted demand, end-market choppiness and higher raw material costs, offset in part by pricing, efficiency measures and roughly $75 million in cost savings. Automotive refinish growth slowed to low single digits, with CEO Heidi Petz describing uneven demand across shop sizes, while the stock rose 5.9% on 2 November despite the cautious tone and a narrowed gross margin reported at the last earnings call. BNP Paribas trimmed its price target to $352 from $360, even as the broader analyst consensus mean target sits at $375.52.
The stock closed at $363.50, up 6.6%, trading above both its 50-day average of $329.61 and 200-day average of $332.72, with one-month returns of 13.2% and six-month returns of 12.3%. The GekkoIndex reads 48.5, placing it in the Neutral zone, down 13 points over five sessions. Price sits 21.3% above Gekko Fair Value of $299.55.
The next earnings report is scheduled for 28 January 2027, 84 days out, beyond a typical 20-trading-day holding window. Sherwin-Williams makes and markets paint, coatings and related goods, reaching everyone from painting professionals and factories to businesses and homeowners shopping for do-it-yourself projects. The company has built much of its public identity around its own branded paint stores.
Its work is split into three areas. One area sells house paint, marine and protective finishes, and factory-applied coatings, mostly to trade painters and homeowners through outlets carrying the Sherwin-Williams name. Another produces both branded and store-label paints, stains, wood treatments, glues and similar items, which it places with home-improvement chains, hardware shops, dealers and distributors. The third supplies coatings for wood and general manufacturing, vehicle repainting, marine and protective uses, metal coil and container coatings, plus resins and colorants, moving these through retailers, dealers, jobbers and licensed partners. Together these businesses reach customers across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.
The company traces back to 1866 and keeps its main offices in Cleveland, Ohio. Its stock trades on the NYSE under the ticker SHW.
