AI summaryOct 12 close

Plug Power's stock has been under pressure this week amid a COO resignation and a sector-wide hydrogen selloff, with shares touching a new 52-week low near $1.69 to $1.71 before closing at $1.62. The Louisiana hydrogen plant and a new legal inquiry drew attention as investors pushed for concrete contracts rather than announcements, even as the company signed a 280 MW electrolyzer deal for the ENDOR project in Denmark with Arcadia eFuels, with revenue still pending a building permit. Separate commentary contrasted Plug Power's green hydrogen ecosystem and logistics partnerships, including with Walmart, against peers like Eos Energy Enterprises.

The close of $1.62 sits below both the 50-day average of $2.08 and the 200-day average of $2.45, with the 50-day also below the 200-day, reflecting a one-month return of -22.9% and a one-year return of -57.1%. The GekkoIndex reads 74.8, placing the stock in the Buying zone. Price sits 37.9% below Gekko Fair Value of $2.61.

Earnings are due 9 November 2026, 27 days out and inside a typical 20-trading-day hold; the prior quarter beat estimates with EPS of -$0.07 versus -$0.08 expected, producing a 1.8% reaction. No insider, Congress, or unusual options activity appears in the current window. Seasonally, the next 20 trading days have averaged -3.1% over 5 years, rising in 1 of them. Analyst consensus across 13 firms includes 3 buy, 7 hold, and 3 sell ratings, with a consensus target of $3.54.

About Plug Power

Plug Power builds hydrogen fuel cell systems and related equipment for customers moving goods, running vehicles, or keeping facilities powered. It is particularly known for GenDrive, a hydrogen-fueled system built for electric vehicles used in material handling, part of a broader push to supply clean hydrogen power from generation through to end use.

The company works across the full hydrogen supply chain, producing, storing, delivering and converting the fuel into usable energy for both moving and fixed equipment. Its product line includes GenFuel for liquid hydrogen fueling, GenSure for backup and grid-support power in telecom, transport and utilities, GenCare for maintenance and support, GenKey as a packaged fuel cell solution, ProGen for fuel cell stacks and engines, and electrolyzers for hydrogen generation. Sales run through a direct team, OEM partnerships and a dealer network, with alliances including Airbus, Lhyfe, Edison Motors, Phillips 66, Apex Clean Energy, BAE Systems and Universal Hydrogen Co.

Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Latham, New York, Plug Power operates in North America and internationally. Its shares are listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker PLUG.

What they said
Plug Power reported a materially improved Q2 2026 performance with revenue of $178 million (up ~9% sequentially) and a gross margin near breakeven (-0.9%), a ~30 percentage-point improvement year-over-year. Management attributed improvements to its Quantum Leap restructuring, better plant utilization in hydrogen, improved service margins (27%), equipment margin gains, tariff recoveries and cost discipline that reduced OpEx ~50% y/y to $62 million. Net cash usage improved to $61 million (a ~58% reduction sequentially). Management raised full-year revenue growth guidance to 15–16% (from prior 13–15%) and reiterated its target of positive EBITDA in Q4 2026, with operating-income-positive in Q4 2027 and overall profitability in 2028. The company reported progress on its electrolyzer/hydrogen pipeline (Europe, UK, Australia, Spain JV with Acciona), material-handling repowering/refresh opportunities, and near-term asset monetization ($47M received post-quarter and ~$30–35M expected).
Guidance
Raised full-year revenue growth guidance to 15%–16% (off 2025). Expect some Q3 growth with majority of volume in Q4 2026. Target: positive EBITDA in Q4 2026. Reiterated prior guidance: operating-income positive in Q4 2027 and overall profitability in 2028. Run-rate OpEx ~ $75M/quarter. Asset monetization proceeds: $47M received post-quarter and $30–35M visibility short-term.
Risks flagged
Key risks called out or implied: timing and conversion risk of FEED-to-FID for large electrolyzer/hydrogen projects (timelines are fluid); regulatory / government reviews (e.g., Texas data center moratorium) that could affect asset monetization; dependence on execution to realize equipment orders concentrated in second half/Q4; macro and project-level uncertainties; remaining cash burn until profitability; exposure to convertibles and need for continued access to capital or asset sales.
