NOV designs, builds and markets equipment and systems used in drilling and producing oil and gas, along with some tools for industrial and renewable energy uses. It is known for supplying hardware that ranges from drill pipe and drill bits to rig structures, pressure pumping equipment and subsea production systems, along with the after-sales support that goes with them, such as spare parts, repairs, rentals, remote monitoring and field service.
The company runs through three segments. Wellbore Technologies covers drilling tools, solids control, tubular services and related instrumentation. Completion & Production Solutions handles fracturing equipment, coiled tubing and wireline tools, onshore pumping and lift systems, and offshore production technology, along with industrial pumps and mixers. Rig Technologies supplies rig substructures, cranes, pipe handling systems, mud pumps, pressure control gear, and equipment for offshore construction and pipelay work.
NOV was founded in 1862 and is based in Houston, Texas, having previously operated under the name National Oilwell Varco, Inc. Its shares are listed on the NYSE under the ticker NOV.
