What they said
Tyler Technologies reported a strong and productive Q2 2026 with multiple operational and strategic accomplishments. Management highlighted 21.7% SaaS revenue growth, record SaaS bookings, record total bookings and record Q2 free cash flow. Key strategic items included the acquisition of For the Record (FTR) to strengthen courts & justice capabilities, a convertible debt offering to enhance financial flexibility, and significant share repurchases (over 5.5% YTD). Management reported healthy public-sector demand driven by modernization, cloud conversions, transactions momentum (10% growth excluding Texas), and growing early adoption of AI-enabled products (document automation, resident AI assistant, priority-based budgeting). They emphasized their cloud “cloud living” initiative with incentives to drive flips, a target to convert 85% of 2023 maintenance to cloud by 2030, and three AI monetization models (table stakes, subscription uplift, outcome-based). Margin expansion (~100 basis points midpoint) and limited incremental hiring were reiterated, and management said full-year outlook remains unchanged. The tone was confident and forward-looking, acknowledging some lumpy timing risks for larger flips and noting certain past headwinds (third-party payment processing cost pressure) that have mostly abated.
Guidance
- Management reiterated full-year outlook (no change to sales/revenue guidance) and expects margin expansion of roughly 100 basis points year-over-year at the midpoint. - Cloud conversion target: convert 85% of 2023 maintenance to cloud by 2030. - Expect AI-related revenue to become more meaningful in second half of 2027 and ramp into 2028. - Continued share repurchases (management prioritized buybacks given valuation and free cash flow). - No change to spending outlook; hiring remains limited in the second half.
Risks flagged
- Timing and lumpiness of large cloud conversions and flips (visibility can be limited for larger accounts). - Integration and scrutiny of M&A candidates in the context of AI (management is more selective). - Past third-party payment processing cost increases (peak last year) created headwinds; though company says this has largely played out. - Potential for slower decision-making in parts of the market as AI considerations evolve (market may move slower on some decisions). - Budget variability across jurisdictions (although management described budgets as generally healthy).
