About Uber Technologies
Uber Technologies builds and operates software platforms that connect people with services they need day to day. Its best-known offering matches riders with independent drivers for ride-hailing trips, while a companion service links customers to restaurants, grocery stores and other merchants for the delivery of meals, groceries and everyday goods. These platforms operate across a wide geographic footprint spanning the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.
The company organizes its work into three areas. Mobility covers the ride-hailing side of the business, giving consumers access to cars, auto rickshaws, motorbikes, minibuses and taxis, along with related financial partnerships, transit links and vehicle-related services. Delivery lets users order from local restaurants for pickup or delivery and extends to groceries, alcohol, convenience items and other products. Freight connects shippers with carriers, offering upfront pricing, booking tools and logistics and transportation management support.
Founded in 2009 and originally registered as Ubercab, Inc., the company took on its current name in February 2011. It is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and its shares trade on the NYSE under the ticker UBER.
